In general, organic methods avoid the use of synthetic products, such as pesticides, herbicides, and artificial fertilizers. The movement of biological agriculture emerged in the 1940s as a response to the industrialization of agricultural production called the green revolution. Organic farming is currently a heavily regulated industry, which in countries like Japan, Canada or the European Union requires special certifications to be able to market its products. Organic food producers are obliged to use only certain authorized agrochemicals, and transgenic seeds or plants cannot be used for their production. Organic crops are usually fertilized with compost, mineral powders and other substances of organic origin. Among the agricultural methods traditionally used are the system of terraces or natural barriers to prevent soil erosion, crop rotation or planting of legumes. They can also present other qualities such as eco-friendly packaging for disposal to the final consumer.
